About

Pursuit Technology is me (Andrew Baines), and a network of freelance consultants who work together on a variety of projects.

I first used Crystal Reports back in 1995. I was a wine buyer in London and needed to analyse sales data in Sage Line 50. That was Crystal Reports 4.0, soon upgraded to Crystal Reports 5 with Crystal Info 5.0 for scheduling.

In 1997, I left the wine trade to work for Seagate Software – the vendors of Crystal Reports. At Seagate I worked in a variety of pre-sales consultancy roles covering Channel, OEM & direct business. It was here that I worked with the very new Crystal Enterprise (now SAP BI/Crystal Server) before it was publicly released.

From 2002 – 2007, I worked for a Business Objects Platinum Partner as a consultant. This gave me the opportunity to work with Xcelsius before it became part of the Business Objects portfolio. I also worked extensively with the Business Objects Enterprise SDK (Software Developer Kit) creating custom portals for report users.

In 2007, I finally set up on my own, but always with the intention of working with other consultants and consultancies. I’ve worked with over 100 companies, with projects lasting from a few hours to several months. This work has covered almost all aspects of the SAP Business Objects Portfolio. To date, I’ve worked with SAP Business Objects Enterprise, SAP Business Objects Edge, SAP Crystal Reports Server, SAP Crystal Reports, Xcelsius (now Crystal Dashboard), Web Intelligence, Universes, Business Views & the SDKs. I also work with Microsoft, focussing on SQL Server and Integration Services for data warehouses, with PowerBI to make things prettier. Latest addition is the exciting Metabase dashboard product.
